Separated Black & Grey Water

Why does my Black and Grey Water need to be separated for the NaturalFlow system?

Separating Black Water and Grey Water at the source

NaturalFlow combines vermiculture with other natural settling processes to treat black water (from toilets and kitchens) and grey water (from showers and laundries).

With the NaturalFlow system, the black water is separated from the grey water at its source, so there is no emulsifying of the solids with the bulk of the wastewater. Through this separation, the wastewater treatment process is greatly simplified and you convert solid waste into fertiliser. You can also have grey water re-use for non-potable uses.

With NaturalFlow, you have a home sewage treatment system that operates quietly and cost-effectively. Designing complete solutions, NaturalFlow can provide your home with a bespoke wastewater treatment system.

What happens to the Black Water?

To treat black water, NaturalFlow uses a purpose-designed chamber called the WORMORATOR, which separates solids from the liquid and treats them by way of vermiculture and other power-free, natural processes.

The WORMORATOR is an enclosed wastewater treatment system for homes that mimics the forest floor and uses natural filter media that do not rely on any power source. Inside the chamber, a bark medium is used to filter out the liquid and retain solids. Tiger worms break down the residual solids and convert them into water-soluble nutrients. The liquid wastewater and nutrients are further purified and treated through natural media until they are safe to reintroduce into the soil.

What happens to the Grey Water?

NaturalFlow offers a revolutionary sewage system for homes. Our system allows homeowners to reuse grey water. Having less solid waste than black water (water from toilets and sinks), grey water can be used to irrigate fields or landscaping. Separated from the black water, the grey water goes through a series of natural settling and filtering processes.

Grey water carries minimal solids but has soap scum. NaturalFlow’s grey water treatment process quickly strips the grey water of scum to prevent putrefaction and the growth of anaerobic bacteria.

Final disposal of treated water

After treatment, the grey water is combined with the treated black water for final disposal into the soil and into the environment. The water cycle continues!
