Commercial Wastewater

Commercial wastewater treatment is a bit more complex and requires specific design, which our team at Waterflow can provide for you.

Take the Lead in Building a Sustainable Future for Your Community

We have done several commercial and large-scale systems; including several Maraes, fruit picking accommodation, School’s , Papakainga’s, small subdivisions with a communal system or simply very large family homes. With daily volumes ranging from 5,000 to 50,000L or more; and both primary to secondary treatment level requirements. We have the capability to build a configuration to your needs; and long term requirements.

Key Considerations

When dealing with commercial and industrial waste, care needs to be taken. These situations are not ‘one size fits all’. Unlike a domestic situation, there are considerations to make before prescribing a product for commercial facilities.

The three key considerations are: sources of waste, volume of waste and fluctuations over time. Together these factors influence the design of your system, creating something that will serve you for the long term.

Failure to factor in every dimension can lead to costly remediation; incomplete treatment can cause blockage and long-lasting soil damage. That’s why it’s important to get it right the first time.

Sources of Waste

This is the first thing that must be accurately covered. It is purely human waste from ablution blocks or accommodation? Is there a by-product from processing? Are there process chemicals or contaminants?

It is important to ask these questions and understand what needs to be done to treat the wastewater. It may be that pre treatment of a source is required, such as removing grease from commercial kitchen waste. There may be chemicals that should be excluded from the main flow or neutralized, to ensure effective treatment of the mainstream waste. In many cases waste is combined just because it is convenient, while the organization is unaware of the detriment and costs being incurred.

Our experience will help you through this stage without missing a beat.

CommercialVolume of Waste

This must also be calculated as accurately as possible, as the volume will determine the size of the treatment plant you require.

To get this right we will assess the type and volume of users; whether over-night, day only, visitors, staff etc

Fluctuations Over TimeCommercial

Is it a consistent flow from a subdivision or papakainga? Is it a seasonal flow from a packhouse or campground?

If you experience short term peak flows, we may be able to save you a considerable amount of money. Rather than installing a system to match the peak flow, a smaller system that takes batch flows may be enough; this would continue to operate outside of the peak period, using the low times to process the remaining peak flow. Smart design and operation are our specialty.
